Households of the over-66s
In just over a quarter of DA7’s homes, everyone who lives there is 66 or older: 3,708 households at the 2021 Census, 26.6% of the district, against 22.0% across England and 20.7% across Bexley as a whole. Many have been in the same house for decades, and the electrics show it quietly rather than dramatically. A fuse board from before RCDs were usual, protecting the cables and nothing else. Smoke alarms on batteries, put up years ago. Extension leads doing the work of sockets that were never added, run across a floor or under a rug, which Electrical Safety First lists as a trip hazard. A landing light with a switch at one end of the stairs only. Electrical Safety First’s advice for older people is that electrics more than 50 years old should be checked and updated, and that every home should have at least one smoke alarm on each floor; its advice for families adds a heat detector in the kitchen. If you are arranging this for a parent, say so on the form and give the number you want called. And because DA7 is in Greater London, the London Fire Brigade offers free home fire safety visits to people at higher risk of fire, and fits smoke alarms during the visit if they are needed.
Census 2021 is five years old. Counts one-person households aged 66 and over plus single-family households where everyone is 66 or over. Summed over the output areas where most postcodes are in the district; small-area counts carry ONS's disclosure-control adjustments.

DA7 and its borders
Every one of DA7’s 625 live postcodes is in the London Borough of Bexley, yet none of its wards stays inside it. Bexleyheath ward has 194 postcodes here and 128 in DA6; Crook Log is shared three ways, 140 here, 110 in DA6 and 24 in DA16; West Heath runs on into DA16, SE2 and DA17; and 65 of Barnehurst ward’s 185 postcodes are DA8. Barnehurst is the one place that Ordnance Survey and the ONS place index both put wholly inside DA7.
The rest of Bexleyheath is DA6, and the Bexleyheath page covers both districts, arguing from the borough’s plug-in car numbers.
